Today in this post I will tell you what is cholesterol? You know the human body has a lot of cholesterol in it. Cholesterol is a chemical compound that is found in our body especially in livers. It is like a wax-like substance and found in every part of our body. It is produced in the liver. Cholesterol helps to make estrogens, testosterone and cell membranes in our body.HDL cholesterol is very important for our body to function properly. Cholesterol also helps to produce Vitamin-D, hormones, and digestive enzymes. Our body produces only 20 to 25 percents of the cholesterol in our body and the remaining cholesterols are entered in our body with foods. Green vegetables and fruits do not contain any cholesterol but meats, fishes and dairy products contain a high level of cholesterol. Cholesterol does not dissolve in our blood that's why excessive amount of cholesterol for our body is harmful. High level of cholesterol in our body can bring many dangerous diseases to our body. When we eat some foods that are rich in cholesterol then the cholesterols are absorbed by our small intestine and stored in the Liver after the competition of metabolism function. When our body needs cholesterols then our liver secrets cholesterols. To make our body organisms function properly and smoothly cholesterol is necessary for our body. Cholesterol cannot be dissolved in our blood that's why it can block our arteries. If our cholesterols level is high then the cholesterol in our blood blocks our arteries because cholesterols can't be dissolved in our blood. This is called Plague. That is the main reason for heart attack and heart stroke diseases.

Cholesterols are often called Lipoproteins, are mainly of three types.

Normal cholesterol levels

1.LDL(low-density lipoprotein): Low-density lipoproteins contains high cholesterol levels and low protein levels. That's why it(low-density lipoprotein) is called bad cholesterol. If your body has a high level of LDL then there is a high chance of heart attack, heart stroke, artery blockage and blood clotting diseases in your body. That's why the percentage of LDL should we never cross the normal levels of LDL cholesterol in your body. According to the NCEP, if a person has no other risk factors, an LDL-C level can be evaluated as follows: Less than 100 mg/dL (2.59 mmol/L) — Optimal. 100-129 mg/dL (2.59-3.34 mmol/L) — Near-optimal, above optimal. 130-159 mg/dL (3.37-4.12 mmol/L) — Borderline high.

2.HDL(high-density lipoprotein): High-density lipoproteins(HDL) contents high amounts of proteins and low amounts of cholesterols that's why it is called good cholesterol. If your body has enough amount of HDL cholesterol then your body can be protected from a heart attack or other heart diseases, artery blockage, and blood clotting, etc.HDL cholesterol levels greater than 60 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) are high. That's good. HDL cholesterol levels less than 40 mg/dL are low. That's not so good.

3.VLDL (very low-density lipoprotein): VLDL (very low-density lipoprotein) is more dangerous than LDL because VLDL contains high cholesterol levels and low amount of proteins than LDL cholesterol that's why it is very bad cholesterol. If your body has a high amount of VLDL then the chance of your heart attack increases up to 50%.VLDL contains the highest amount of triglycerides. VLDL is considered a type of bad cholesterol because it helps cholesterol build up on the walls of arteries. Normal VLDL levels are from 2 to 30 mg/dL (0.1 to 1.7 mmol/l).
